Looking Back on 2018

2018 has been a very eventful year, to say the least. Containing many events, both good and bad, it’s been a big year.

2018 was, tragically, the worst year for school shootings. According to BBC, 113 people have been injured or killed in the event of a school shooting this year. One of the most threatening things to happen in 2018 were the various bomb threats. Multiple suspicious packages were sent out to a number of important people but thankfully, no bombs went off and a suspect was detained. Toward the end of this year, the entire world mourned the loss of Stan Lee and George H. W. Bush, just to name a few.

The music industry faced tremendous losses including the deaths of artists Mac Miller and XXXTentacion. Although, after his passing, XXXTentacion became one of most controversial artists in the music industry, it cannot be denied that his music is extremely poignant to many in the younger generation. He was seen as influential, to many, in the way that he was able to create music that resonates with people, and on December 6th his final album, SKINS, was released to the public, breaking steaming records. Mac Miller’s life was celebrated with a large tribute concert, featuring performances by artists such as SZA, Chance the Rapper, Anderson.Paak, Miguel, Travis Scott and Ty Dolla $ign.

On a lighter note, 2018 had many technological advancements as well. This includes the creation of 3D metal printing and earbuds that allow you to understand others speaking different languages. One of the most interesting advancements is the Sensing City. A Toronto neighborhood aims to be the first place to successfully integrate technology and urban design to make a “smart city” .This is a city in which all the everyday tasks, such as delivering mail, will be done by robots. On the political end of the spectrum, there were many controversial things which occurred this year. One of the top stories was the Senate confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court this year, amidst the allegations against him. He will likely be serving many years.

Overall, 2018 was an exciting and eventful year and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now, as the year comes to the end, we wonder what 2019 will hold for us all.
