Game of Thrones’ fourth season began on April 5th. It is an amazing American fantasy series that airs on HBO.
The story takes place in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer. In typical TV series style, it interweaves several plot-lines simultaneously. The first follows the members of several noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. The second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the mythical creatures of the North. Lastly, the third chronicles the story of the exiled last scion of the realm’s deposed dynasty and his attempts to reclaim the throne. Through its morally ambiguous characters, the series explores the issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment.
The story has a large cast of characters, ranging from the noble Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark to the clever dwarf Tyrion Lannister or the cruel, young, sadistic Joffrey Lannister. Viewers will grow to like some of the characters while others they will despise with a passion. Jack Gleeson, the actor who plays Joffrey Lannister, plays his role to well that many of the viewers despise his character so much they send him hate mail. This is a testament to the kind of interest this show can inspire. I would recommend watching it just because Peter Dinklage does an incredible job playing the role of Tyrion Lannister.
Game of Thrones is a mature show, featuring a lot of bloodshed, nudity, sex, inappropriate language and violence. Bloodshed and violence is most prominent through the gruesome executions, decapitations, and large scale battles. While many viewers might dislike the show for its graphic nature, Game of Thrones is still an amazing and gripping show to watch.
