Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, also known by her stage name Lana Del Rey, is a singer / songwriter who was born on June 21, 1986 in New York.
When Del Rey was about 18 years old, she initially headed out to the Bronx for college, but then realized her interest for music. She started out singing at churches for her uncle and has always had a passion for singing, but never thought to pursue it as a career. In 2005, she started recording her own CDs and her first official album was entitled “Sirens” and was leaked a few years later.
In 2007, Del Rey was signed to a record company called 5 Points Records. A year later, she released her first EP with her debut album following up with it. After her tracks were taken off iTunes, she then uploaded some of her songs on YouTube. Shortly after she was signed to a new record company Stranger Records. During 2011 and 2012, she worked with Interscope Records on her first studio album “Born to Die.” She promoted her studio album with several live performances. This album was officially released on Jan. 31, 2013. It had sold over 3.4 million copies in just that year.
Del Rey has announced that she has been working on her third album with a different flow but with her same dark style.
