How to Make a Racer Back Tank Top

Summer is just around the corner for us, and it’s starting to get warmer, and people are planning trips to go to warm places. Maybe you don’t have enough clothes or tank tops to wear, but that’s alright because I can show you how to make racer back tank tops out of your old T-shirts.

Things you will need:

  • An old t-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Thread and a needle (optional)

Step 1: Pick your shirt. Get one of your old t-shirts that you don’t need anymore, preferably one without a lot of design on it because you don’t want to cut off the design.

Step 2: Start by drawing a line about 1 inch away from the seam on the sleeve, and cut it off along the line.

Step 3: Then take the cut off sleeve and put it on the attached sleeve and trace it, then cut it out.

Step 4: Draw a line about an inch from the seam on the collar and cut it off.

Step 5: On the back of the shirt, draw a line from the corner to middle of the shirt. ONLY cut the back, NOT THE FRONT. After you cut, if the front isn’t straight, you can trim it down. Then do the same with the other side.

Step 6: Gather the back together and take a strip of cloth and wrap it around the back. You can sew it together or you tie a small knot and tuck it under.

Step 7: The do the same thing with the straps.

Then you have a cute new tank top!
