Warriors vs. Spurs

After the Golden State Warriors defeated the Denver Nuggets, they moved on to the semi-finals in the Western Conference Division. The teams in the semi-finals for the Western Conference Division are Oklahoma Thunders vs. Memphis Grizzles and San Antonio Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors.

San Antonio Spurs were the 2nd seed in the playoffs, and they faced the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. The Lakers had no chance against the Spurs without Kobe Bryant. The Spurs swept the Lakers (4-0) sending the Lakers home early.

The Warriors headed down to San Antonio for game 1 in the semi-finals. The Spurs had their starting power-forward Tiago Splitter out for the game with an ankle injury and the Warriors still had David Lee out for the game with a hip flexor injury. In the first half, the Warriors were pushing the ball playing up tempo basketball. Stephen Curry shot the lights out throughout the game. Curry wanted to beat the Spurs on their home court.  At halftime, the Warriors were leading the game (52-49). In the second half of the game, Curry takes off in the 3rd quarter like usual. In the end of the 3rd quarter Warriors were up by 12 points (92-80). In the 4th quarter, Warriors thought they had the game in their hands but Spurs fought until end of the game and they tied the game to go into overtime. The first overtime was just back to back scoring that led into another overtime. The Spurs’  Manu Ginobili made a game winning basket to put them up by 2 point with 1.3 seconds left on the clock. The Warriors tried shooting a 3 to win the game but just couldn’t make it. The Spurs took game one of the semi-finals (127-129) and Spurs led the series (1-0).

The Warriors were mad that they lost game 1 when they had it in their hands the whole game.  They wanted to redeem themselves for game two, showing people that they can compete with the best teams in the NBA.  In the first half of the second game, the Warriors were having a good game, shooting from the 3 point line like theirs no tomorrow. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, known as the Splash Brothers, were having their chemistry kick in once again. The Warriors lead the first half (62-43). The Warriors had a 19 point lead in the first half. The Warriors had a bad 3rd quarter, letting the Spurs cut down the lead to 11 points.  The Warriors had the lead the whole game.  In the 4th quarter, the Warriors were attempting to waste time to make sure they took this game home. The Spurs tried fighting back, trying to cut down the lead in to single digits but the Warriors kept answering back when the Spurs would score. The Warriors won game two of the semi-finals (100-91). Klay Thompson had 34 points and 14 rebounds. The Warriors tied the series (1-1). The Warriors are heading back home for game three and four.

In game three, the Warriors took home court advantage. In the first half, Tony Parker, the Spurs’ starting point guard, was on fire blowing by defender to score a bucket. The Spurs were on a run and they took the lead the first half (58-48). In the second half, Stephen Curry carried his team on his back to tie up the game in the 3rd quarter. But after they tied it, the Spurs got on another run to put them back up by 11 to end the 3rd quarter. In the 4th, the Warriors got on a 9-0 run to put them down by 1. The Spurs didn’t let the Warriors come back. In the 4th quarter, Stephen Curry once again sprained his ankle. The Spurs took game three (102-92) and took the lead in the series (2-1).

Stephen Curry went to get x-rays on his ankle before game four. His x-rays came out negative and he didn’t know if was able to play in game four until the day of the game.

In game four, the Warriors announced that Stephen Curry would be in the starting lineup. The Warriors needed to win this game for them to still be able to take the series. Stephen Curry was very limited on his playing time because of his ankle.  Manu Ginobili, the Spurs’ sixth man, had an incredible 1st half making it rain from the 3 point line. Jack was putting his team on his back helping them keep the score close. The Spurs were leading the first half (45-37). Curry came into the 3rd quarter and took off again like usually. Curry shot a couple of three-pointers to help the Warriors cut down the lead. Harrison Barnes was the leading score for the Warriors and shot a 3 to help the Warriors take the lead (55-51). Tony Parker ended the 3rd quarter to put the Spurs up by 2 (62-60).  Jack had an amazing 4th quarter helping his team to victory. It was tied (84-84) with 16.1 seconds left on the clock. The Warriors had the chance to take the win but they missed the shot. The game went into overtime and the Warriors fought hard throughout the whole overtime. The Warriors took game 4 (97-87) and they tied the series again (2-2).

In game five, the Warriors headed back to San Antonio. The first half was intense as the Spurs and the warriors were going at it. Tony Parker was having a fantastic game, leading his team towards a victory.  The Spurs were having a good game (10-21). The Warriors allowed the spurs to score 37 points in the first quarter. The Warriors came back in the 2nd quarter, making them down by only 3 points (54-51).  The Spurs finished the game winning by 18 points (109-91). The Spurs took the lead in the series making it (3-2). The Warriors headed back home for game six, a must win game.

Game six, the Warriors had the home court advantage and it was a must win game. It was their last home game before they go back to San Antonio for a game seven if it was necessary. The first half of the game was intense it was a close game throughout the whole game.  Stephen Curry was putting his team on his back to force a game seven. The Spurs were playing as a team by moving the ball around and shooting the ball at the right time. Everything was going their way. The Spurs led the first half (46-40). In the second half, the Warriors and Spurs started the game with head to head scoring. They both scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, the Warriors started their come back.  Curry tried everything he could do to help his team to take the lead. But the Spurs weren’t letting the Warriors come back. Tony Parker wouldn’t stop the fight. The Spurs won the game, moving on to the Western Conference Finals (94-82). The Spurs will play the Memphis Grizzles in the Western Conference Finals.

It was a good year for the Warriors. The Warriors did everything they could do to win the game but it wasn’t enough. The fans were still happy that the Warriors made it this far. The fans were waiting for this year to come. No matter what, the fans are still happy that the Warriors fought hard to get this far. The Warriors still have next year and they can learn from the experience they had this year.
