The grand stage of the music world has grown a bit darker this week. Legendary Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman died of liver failure on Thursday, May 2. He is survived by his wife, sister, and two brothers.
It is unknown what caused Hanneman’s liver failure, though it is speculated that it may have been a complication from the necrotizing fasciitis that was infecting his right arm. Hanneman died in the hospital near his Southern California home early Thursday afternoon.
Rockers all over the country have reacted with sadness and respect, as the 5th annual Revolver Golden Gods Rewards Show (the rock and roll version of the Grammy’s) that aired live last night was dedicated in Hanneman’s memory. Rockers from Rob Zombie to Corey Taylor to Gene Simmons all relayed their sadness and sympathies, and express their love for the Slayer crew and Hanneman’s family. The great guitarist will be sorely missed.
