On Thursday March 14, the Oceana students in the special education classes participated in the annual Special Olympics at Terra Nova High School. To prepare for the event, the students warmed up by running around for a few minutes. Before leaving for Terra Nova, they also sang the popular song “Hey Jude” on the karaoke machine that Bruce provided. When it was time to head over to T.N., everyone boarded the bus and sat down quietly and calmly.”Today’s going to be a crazy day, yet it will be fun,” Ms. Thomas said.
The entire day consisted mainly of basketball. Students were broken up into different teams, also known as their “homerooms.” There were two games occurring at the same time and each game lasted about 20 minutes. The Leadership class at T.N. usually refereed the games. “They are very great helpers,” Mrs. Thomas said.
After a long day of playing basketball, everyone was tired but it was obvious they all had fun. “It was really fun,” Jhaelen and Spencer said excitedly. “I really like playing basketball!”
Overall, it was a great day for everyone and they did a great job.
