It seems as if all the burger joints taste the same these days, but Five Guys is grilling up burgers that will make your mouth water.

According to the San Bruno Patch, Five Guys opened in the fall of 2012 and is President Barack Obama’s favorite burger spot. Ever since then, customers have been lining up to try this famous burger that has captured the tastebuds of the President of the United States.

Five Guys offers a variety burgers that you can top off with anything you like.  They have a standard topping option but you can always add on extra toppings that they have without paying an extra cost. In other words, IT’S FREE! In addition, they have unlimited peanuts for customers to snack on while waiting for their orders to arrive.

Celine and I were a  bit hesitant to enter the restaurant at first because the burgers looked so plain. However, we decided to try it out. I ate the Little Bacon Cheeseburger and the bacon was chopped and grilled into crispy pieces.  The smaller size was already quite big but I regretted not ordering the larger size. Celine tried the Little Cheeseburger and mentioned that “This is better than most fast food restaurants, but maybe not as good as In-N-Out”.

Now onto their fries. Their regular fries were satisfactory but their Cajun fries really had a kick to them. The Cajun fries were spicy and paired up nicely with the burgers. If you can’t handle spicy foods, I still recommend that you try the fries but just wash them down with Five Guys’ plethora of cool beverages. They may not have signature drinks or crazy concoctions but that doesn’t make the food any less delicious.  Sometimes simplicity is actually what people need in their lives.

The restaurant has a diner-like atmosphere, but we’ll be honest, the place is just a tad too cramped. The potato sacks Five Guys uses as decorations takes up probably half the room. Customers have no choice but to take their burgers to-go and eat outside of the restaurant due to the limited seating space.

I would give Five Guys 3.5 stars out 5.  The food is tasty but the choices are limited. And I agree with Celine, it’s not much competition for In-N-Out.
