Christian Datuin transferred to Oceana his sophomore year from Capuchino High School. He first wrestled as a mustang then became a mighty shark. He started wrestling because a friend told him to try it out, “I loved it ever since” added Christian.
Since he is graduating this year, this was Christian’s last year participating in high school wrestling. He wrestled in the 138 weight class. He went undefeated in his dual meets at (4-0), placed in two tournaments, and his overall record was (14-10).
Christian loves to win. His determination to win every match motivates him to get better. Anthony Robles, a wrestler from Arizona State University, is an inspiration to him and he would like to wrestle as well as Robles. He contributes a lot to the team by winning matches and being a cooperative team member.
Before every match Christian does a quick prayer to calm himself. At each match he attends, he is focused and hungry for another victory, making him a tough and intimidating opponent. But Christian is a hard worker off the mats as well. He wants to focus on his academics and mentioned that he won’t be wrestling in college in order to pursue another career.
When asked about why he thinks he was nominated for Player of the Month, Christian inferred that, “The main reason is probably because I won my matches and dual meets and I worked hard at practices.” In additon, he admitted “It feels good to be recognized for my accomplishments. It is an honor to be named Player of the Month.”
